As promised, the Non Profit Summit 5 is scheduled for April 18 from 9 to 12 noon at the Haimerl Center and there is much news to share at the summit. I have attached the flyer about the summit and we are working on the registration on our website. Please register in the next few days. We plan to update you on the progress of getting grants and on the Northland International Community Festival. Please pass on the information to others and register next week. Meeting set to bring back Northland-area neighborhood

The first Beaumont Civic Association meeting will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 7 PM at the Franklin County Animal Shelter located behind Menards on Morse Road. Representatives from the City of Columbus, Northland Community Council, Northland Alliance as well as residents of the Beaumont area (between Karl and Cleveland and Morse to Ferris) will be attending. All residents of this area are welcome.

At the third Summit goals were set and action plans were initiated around applying for a Neighborhood Partnership Grant. The grant writing team will be reporting on the progress of the Neighborhood Partnership Grant and why Beaumont (the area south of Morse to Ferris between Karl and Cleveland) was chosen for the initiation of Phase I, a community resident survey. United Way will do a 90 minute Community conversation with us about Beaumont to cover the following topics: What kind of community do we want? What do we want the neighborhood to look like? What barriers stand in the way? What can be done to help? The questions are not about casting blame and pointing fingers. Instead, they are about thinking about where we are as a community, where we want to be, and what we might be able to do to get there.

Mayor Introduces My Neighborhood Initiative to Map Services
Also, MyColumbus App Now Available to Droid Users

Mayor Michael B. Coleman today unveiled the My Neighborhood initiative, allowing residents to easily select and map government services, local entertainment and retail venues, as well as other useful Columbus sites. My Neighborhood is designed for residents, businesses and communities to simplify the process of locating information and services for working and living in the nation’s 15th largest city. The tool is easy to use and provides a wealth of information in a single location. Users have the ability to filter the wealth of information by address, neighborhood, or point of interest.

Thank you to all of the City of Columbus departments, City Council and community leaders that worked closely with the Department of Technology to design My Neighborhoods and MyColumbus,” Mayor Coleman said. “Initiatives such as these continue to make neighborhood services more accessible to our residents.”

Mayor Coleman also announced that the MyColumbus Mobile Application is now available to Droid users. When the City of Columbus launched MyColumbus July 25, it was initially only available for iPhone users. MyColumbus puts city services in the fingertips of residents and visitors, highlighting many mayoral initiatives that improve our quality of life, including My Neighborhood, GetActive, GetGreen, and 311.

The yearlong process for developing a new plan governing development in what is called the "traditional" Northland area is under way.

In the wake of Paul entering into the agreement with the city's planning administrator, Vince Papsidero, a website (http://development.columbus.gov/planning/northland.aspx) was created to assist with public participation in the process. "You are invited to take part in the development of the Northland I Area Plan," the site states. "The Northland I Area Plan will provide updates and replace the 2001 Northland Plan, Volume I. The planning process was initiated at the request of the Northland Community Council and will take one year to complete. You can participate by attending public workshops or by submitting your ideas and comments to the plan website."

An area plan involves seven phases that spread out over the course of a year or more.

Information provided by Kevin Wheeler, assistant planning administrator within the city's Department of Development, identifies these seven phases as:

Northland Plan: Volume I The Northland Plan - Volume I provides specific guidelines for development, growth, redevelopment and improvement of the physical environment of the Northland area (I-71 and Sinclair Road to the west, I-270 to the north and east, and a combination of Morse Road, Ferris Road, and Cooke Road to the south).

The Northland Alliance, Inc.

The Northland Alliance, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in March 2001 and dedicated to the improvement of the greater Northland community of northeast Columbus, Ohio. As set forth in its Articles of Incorporation, the Northland Alliance, Inc., in partnership with and in support of the Northland Community Council (NCC) and the Northland Area Business Association (NABA), works to:

ß combat urban blight, neighborhood decline and urban sprawl
ß preserve green space and protect our waterways and the environment
ß create, improve and beautify public spaces including parks, playgrounds, bikeways and other public space
ß enhance and improve the neighborhoods within Northland
ß encourage safe pedestrian access to neighborhoods
ß educate neighbors and businesses on ways to increase safety and lower crime, and to revitalize their properties
ß improve housing stock and access to housing
ß provide or improve needed services to Northland’s residents, workers and visitors
ß support public events which foster a sense of community and neighborhood within the greater Northland area
ß enhance the image of and quality of life for Northland’s residents, workers and visitors

The Northland Alliance, Inc., an Ohio corporation, is a non-profit organization operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) the United States Internal Revenue Code, and is registered as such with the Internal Revenue Service.
